_{Okay. This is Virginia. Actually, I originally started drawing him as a girl (because the name 'Virginia' kinda struck me as female |D ) but he turned into a guy |D Most of it is just my knowledge of the state, since 4th and 6th grade was mostly about Virginia =n=.
I want to note that the North and the South are pretty different...... I live in Northern Virginia, so the personality, clothing, and stuff like that are kind of based off of what I've seen. Lol. He's wearing Aeropostle |D Seriously, where I live, everyone either wears Areopostle, Hollister, American Eagle, or Hot Topic. Yeah =u= I'm more of a Forever 21 person |D So yeah! Let's get to know this guy!~

Name: James Dare -- James because of Jamestown, and Dare because the first child born in the new world was named 'Virginia Dare'.

Age: Physically- 18 Actual Age- Weeeeeelll The colony was founded in 1607, but it became and official state in 1788 ; u ; So if we do the math.... 405 years old if you go with the colony date ; 7 ;

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Bi-curious -- But tends to stay in the closet about. He's not much of a romance for one thing Homosexuality is somewhat 'tolerable' in VA. (( As for shippings, its not really a big concern. I just won't ship him with America, England, and any other state. I see them as siblings and incest is a no-no ;m; ))

Capital: Richmond. It used to be Jamestown, then Williamsburg, and now its Richmond.

Slogan: 'Virginia is for lovers.' Lol My friends and I would joke about how people would get married in Maryland and lose their virginity in Virginia. Actually, I know that they named it 'Virginia' because of the virgin Queen Elizabeth I.

Nicknames:

'Mother of States'

'Old Dominion State' -I'm not too sure why its called that.... I looked it up, but I kinda didn't understand it very well. I'm a little slow ; n ; I didn't want to type anything without fully understanding it.

Just something random.... apparently we're known for our traffic ._." Northern VA that is......... Yeah, we do have really bad traffic from time to time xD My theory is that its because so many people commute to D.C for their jobs. Like my dad c: Oh. And don't listen to the 'bratty, rich, snobs' stereotype |D Its not true at all XD

Appearance: He has short *scruffish?* brunet hair, and matching eyes. He usually wears pretty casual clothes, mostly Aeropostle. Oh. Since the first permanent English settlement was in his very own Jamestown. He gets to have those beautiful eyebrows. e u e He sags. Don't tell him to pull up his pants. He won't listen.

Personality: I see VA are one of dem 'older' states. I also see the states (including America himself) as siblings. So yeah! One of the elder siblings of this big happy family. He pretty friendly and rather mature which sometimes makes him come off as 'boring', yet he won't pull up his pants. He's a bit cautious with his siblings, and can act like 'Mr. Mom' sometimes because he's the Mother of States. West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and, even a part of Minnesota were all a part of the original Virginia territory. He's not much of a 'sporty' type of guy and tends root with D.C or North Carolina, though he does have some minor league teams. He absolutely hates 'Virgin Virginia' jokes. He has no idea what so wrong with being a virgin. Sometimes he retaliates by saying, "Well at least my name isn't Idaho!" and then immediately apologizes to Idaho. He does have a soft spot for nature. Virginia had a diverse flora and fauna. He isn't to thrilled with the fact that people aren't very careful of it. He gets annoyed with Alfred at times. He's too obnoxious, but still a good brother. He admires Robert E. Lee a lot.

Dude. I suck so much at explaining personalities. I really do.

-- He was the 10th colony to ratify the Constitution. Actually, he wanted to be 9th, but New Hampshire beat him to it.

Sir Walter Raleigh lead the expedition for colonizing Roanoke. This one failed. Virginia Dare was also born here. At one point, the Governor, John White, went back to England to get food and supplies. He came three years later to see everything was gone. On a tree, the word 'Croatoan' was carved.

Virginia was one of the 'slave states'. Actually, the state was hesitant about breaking away from the Union. They didn't want to break away and go to war. When Lincoln called for a raise of 75000 soldiers, Virginia didn't send any. Richmond was also the capital of the Confederacy. There where many major battles in Virginia, including the first and last one. (The First Battle of Bull Run and The Surrender at The Appomattox Court House. )

Also, counties in the western part of Virginia refused to secede ( and had some states rights issues) and broke away. (This made James unhappy :c )

Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson and Robert E. Lee should be to familiar names c: They were both from Virginia. Lincoln actually asked Lee to be the general of the Union. Lee declined, because he didn't want to go against his own state. James admires Lee a lot. c: (( I do to for that matter xD ))
